What you should know about dental cleaning

Oral Hygiene - Smile for Everyone

When we talk about dental cleaning, it is perhaps the simplest procedure that a dentist can perform, but at the same time it is definitely the pillar of prevention in oral health.

The objective of dental cleaning is to remove tartar and bacterial plaque that forms around the teeth as a result of poor oral hygiene. In many occasions the patient does not perform a correct oral hygiene at home. This includes the use of dental floss, proper brushing, ending with an alcohol-free mouthwash.

It is important to note that gums never bleed under normal conditions, not even when brushing your teeth. If this occurs, it may be an indication that a gingivitis process is developing.

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums, if not treated in a timely manner, it evolves into periodontitis. When this happens, bacteria attack the bone that supports the teeth, causing the teeth to loosen and eventually fall out.

Dental scaling is the procedure carried out for the removal of tartar. It is performed by means of a tool that produces a vibration that facilitates the removal of tartar without causing damage to the dental structure, reducing the operative time. This is followed by polishing and fluoride application. Fluoride helps prevent dental caries, protecting tooth enamel.

An office dental cleaning is a quick, simple and painless procedure. It should be performed at least every six months to ensure the good condition of the teeth and gums.

Take heart and choose to live with proper oral hygiene to maintain a healthy smile!
