Guide for the care of your dental treatment

Dental treatment care

Now that you have a new smile, the care of your dental restoration is essential to ensure the durability and success of the dental treatment performed, thus maintaining good dental health. For this reason, the professionals at the Sonrisa para Todos dental clinic recommend that you keep in mind a series of precautions:

  • Attending control appointments every 6 months.

After the treatment of dental implants, dental crowns or fixed dental bridges, it is essential to attend the control appointments where a dental check-up and cleaning will be performed in order to remove dental calculus (tartar), thus avoiding irritation and possible infections in the gums that may jeopardize the dental treatment, as well as the early diagnosis of any alteration that may occur over time.

It is also important to inform your dentist of any alterations in your health (such as hypertension, diabetes, coagulation problems, among others) as well as if you have experienced any changes in your dental treatment.

  • Take care of your diet

Avoid consuming foods that are difficult to chew and may compromise dental restoration, do not eat hard foods such as ice, roasted corn kernels, cracklings; fruits and vegetables should be split before eating them.

  • Avoid bad habits

You should refrain from biting hard objects, such as pencils, chopsticks, not biting your nails, nor should you open packages, bottles or other objects with your teeth as this could cause damage and fractures to your dental restoration.

  • Use the splint

If after the new dental restoration the dentist includes an occlusal splint in your treatment plan, you should wear it every day at night to sleep and you should bring it to your follow-up appointments at the dental clinic so that they can determine its condition and functionality, the dentist will determine if it is necessary to make a new one.

  • Maintain good oral hygiene:

The correct use of brushing, flossing and mouthwash is essential to prevent the accumulation of dental plaque (saccus) and the formation of caries. The success of any dental treatment depends to a great extent on the patient's oral hygiene, so we recommend you:

  • Brush your teeth at least 3 times a day.
  • Use dental floss or SuperFloss at least once a day, mainly at night.
  • As an auxiliary means to the use of dental floss or SuperFloss, we recommend the use of WaterPik, which does not replace the use of dental floss, but in combination with it has a better effect.
  • Use the mouthwash recommended by your dentist.

  • Report any abnormalities to your primary care physician:

It is always important to be in constant communication with your dentist. If you have any problems with your dental restoration, contact the doctor who performed your dental treatment as soon as possible so that he/she can give you the solution and specific instructions for your case.

Remember that your dental restoration will have specific indications that will depend on the type of treatment performed, so it is important that you follow your dentist's recommendations to ensure your dental restoration.
