Dental caries?
Dental caries is considered a multifactorial disease, which causes the destruction of tooth tissues due to the acids produced by bacteria when food debris is not properly removed.
Dental caries is associated with factors such as poor brushing technique, not using dental floss, a diet high in sugars, or low saliva production, among others.
Tooth decay begins with demineralization of the tooth structure. This process is the successive loss of the minerals that make up the enamel of the teeth, weakening them and making them susceptible to damage.
It is important to have an in-office dental evaluation and cleaning every six months. Because dental caries can be detected by the dentist in its early stages, allowing the process to be reversed or slowed down by fluoride applications.
When the carious process advances, only the dentist will be able to restore the tooth. All the affected tissue must be removed, then the cavity must be disinfected, and after this, a filling with resin (white shim) must be performed. In cases where the lesion is very extensive, options such as dental inlays or complete crowns should be used.
It is important to detect dental caries before pain appears, because when this happens it could already involve nerve damage and in this case more complex procedures such as endodontics (nerve treatment) should be carried out.
Call us, remember that regular dental visits are essential for a healthy smile and optimal oral health!
