Common Cases of Dental Emergencies

Displaced or loose tooth

If a tooth moves due to a blow or accident:

  • Try to put it gently in place.

  • Hold it firm by biting on a gauze pad.

  • Seek immediate dental care.

In some cases it may require a endodontics or a dental implant to restore function and esthetics.

Tongue or lip lesions

  • Clean gently with water.
  • Apply cold compresses intermittently.
  • If the bleeding does not stop, go to a dentist or emergency room.

Tooth completely out of the mouth (avulsion)

Pick up the tooth by holding it by the crown (never by the root).

If it is complete and free of fractures, put it back in place in less than 30 minutes.

If this is not possible, preserve it in milk, saline solution or saliva and go to the dentist immediately.

Swollen or bleeding gums

  • Brush at least 3 times a day.
  • Rinse with warm salt water or antibacterial rinse.
  • These signs may indicate gingivitis or another condition that requires professional review.
