DENTAL RESTORATION
What is cavity treatment and why not wait?
Dental cavities are the progressive destruction of enamel caused by bacteria. If not treated in time, they advance toward the pulp and may require a root canal or extraction of the affected tooth.
Why treat cavities in time?
- Prevents the decay from reaching the nerve
- Prevents infections, abscesses and chronic pain
- Preserves as much healthy tooth structure as possible
- Restores chewing function and esthetics
- The sooner it is treated, the simpler the treatment
- Avoids extractions and more complex treatments
Types of restorations for cavities
We select the most suitable material according to the location, size and esthetic requirements of each cavity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions about cavity treatment
Does cavity treatment hurt?
No. Treatment is performed under highly effective local anesthesia. You may only feel slight pressure during the procedure, but no pain. Modern anesthesia makes the process comfortable and calm.
How long does a filling or restoration last?
With proper care, composite resin restorations last 7–10 years, and amalgam restorations 10–15 years or more. Durability depends on oral hygiene and regular check-ups.
What is the difference between amalgam and composite resin?
Composite resin is tooth-colored, esthetic and minimally invasive, ideal for front teeth and premolars. Amalgam is stronger, indicated for molars with extensive decay or areas of heavy chewing load.
Can I eat after treatment?
If composite resin was used, wait at least 2 hours before eating so the material finishes hardening. Avoid very hard, sticky or intensely colored foods (coffee, wine) during the first 24 hours.
Are dental amalgams safe?
Yes. Dental amalgams have been extensively studied and are considered safe by the WHO and the ADA. The mercury in amalgam is in a stabilized form and poses no health risk under normal conditions of use.
When should I replace an old restoration?
We recommend replacing a restoration when there are signs of wear, microcracks, leakage or secondary decay. At annual check-ups we assess the condition of all your restorations to anticipate problems.
