FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions about dental crowns
Does getting a dental crown hurt?
No. The procedure is performed under highly effective local anesthesia. You will only feel slight pressure while the tooth is being prepared. Many patients are surprised at how comfortable the treatment was, even on molars or more sensitive teeth.
How long does the whole process take?
The complete process requires 2 visits 3–5 days apart (the time needed to make the crown in our lab). First visit: tooth preparation and placement of a temporary crown. Second visit: final placement, adjustment and cementation. In total, less than 2 weeks from evaluation to final result.
How long does a dental crown last?
With proper care, zirconia and lithium disilicate crowns last 15 to 25 years, and often longer. We offer a 5-year written warranty covering any failure not attributable to the patient. Daily hygiene and regular visits are key to maximizing their lifespan.
Can I eat normally with a dental crown?
Yes. Once the final crown is cemented you can eat virtually any food normally. We recommend avoiding biting very hard objects such as ice, nut shells or pencils, since this also applies to natural teeth and can shorten the life of any restoration.
Is a dental crown noticeable?
With our zirconia and lithium disilicate crowns, the result is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth. We design each crown individually adjusting color, shape, size and translucency so it blends perfectly with the neighboring teeth. The end result is a natural, uniform smile.
How much does a dental crown cost in Costa Rica?
The price varies with the material chosen (zirconia, lithium disilicate or porcelain-fused-to-metal), the complexity of the case and whether prior treatment such as a root canal is required. At Sonrisa Para Todos we offer an initial evaluation with a personalized quote with no obligation. We also offer financing with the main financial institutions in Costa Rica.
